Research

My area of academic pursuit is the treatment of hematologic malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. I serve as the principal investigator on several institutional clinical trials looking at strategies to improve the outcome of patients with multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome and acute leukemia. I am the institutional principal investigator for the national Cancer and Leukemia Group-B (CALGB) trials in hematologic malignancy and stem cell transplantation at Washington University, and I serve on the Core Transplant Committee of the CALGB and the guidelines committees of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).

As the principal investigator of the Multiple Myeloma Tissue Banking initiative, I am collaborating with basic scientists in our division and the Washington University Genome Sequencing Center (GSC), one of the two largest genome sequencing centers in the world, to identify key genetic events involved in the pathogenesis of the disease and to define novel targets for drug development in multiple myeloma. I also serve on the Project Review and Steering Committees of the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC), an organization comprising 13 leading academic centers in the United States conducting and co-ordinating research efforts in genomics, target validation and clinical trials in multiple myeloma.
