| Professional activities | Jim Breitmeyer is the President and CEO of the Harvard Clinical Research Institute (HCRI), the newly formed joint venture between Harvard Medical School, CareGroup Healthcare System (including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), and Partners Healthcare System (including Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women's Hospital). HCRI was established to expand and enhance clinical research activities in the Harvard medical community, promote inter-institutional collaboration in clinical research at Harvard, and provide leadership in national and international clinical trials initiatives. HCRI will facilitate interactions between Harvard faculty members and developers of pharmaceuticals, biologics, and clinical devices. Breitmeyer received the Ph.D. degree in immunology and the M.D. degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and residency and post-doctoral training at Washington University and Harvard Medical School. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Oncology. After several years of patient care and basic and clinical research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, he became Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Serono laboratories in Norwell, MA. He was involved in successful drug and biologic applications in the United States, Europe and Japan. |
